In late October, the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, visited the Baku International Sea Trade Port and underlined that Romania, which has been the second country in the world to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan and established in 2009 a strategic partnership with Baku, is interested to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of transport, according to a press release of the Romanian Embassy to Baku. The head of the Romanian diplomatic mission highlighted also the opportunities created by the project of the transport corridor between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea for boosting the exchange of goods and increasing the volume of trade. Furthermore, according to Trade News Agency, in late November, the discussions to boost the relationship between both countries was reiterated, as Ambassador Ciobanu met with the deputy head of the Shaki City Executive Power Hasan Hasanov and said that Romania is interested in developing economic ties with Azerbaijan. Ciobanu pointed out that there are good prospects for boosting the exchange of goods and increasing the volume of trade at regional level. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Romania stood at 132.17 million USD between January and October this year, by 0.96 per cent less than in the same period of 2014, according to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, quoted by the same source.
