The workings at Comarnic-Brasov segment are estimated at EUR 1.3 billion and they might start in April 2014, according to Dan Sova, Ministry Delegate for Infrastructure Projects. The segment is estimated to be completed in 2016 or 2017, according to the ministry. The constructor will be decided among competitors as construction company China Communications Construction, the association of Spedition UMB Tehnostrade, Vinci, Strabag, Aktor and another association of Impregilo and Salini. In June this year, the Chinese construction company announced it planned to withdraw from the auction.
In October this year, general manager of the National Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR), Narcis Neaga said that there were two problems in terms of the competitive dialogue for the highway construction. One was the age of the feasibility study, which was conducted in 2002. According to him, since then, conditions have changed in that area, so the participants felt another study was needed. Another problem was that the feasibility study stipulated a speed of 80 km per hour on the highway. Neaga said that this aspect necessitated a search for technical solutions for higher speeds.
