Deliveries of retail space to reach 200,000 sqm in 2018 outside Bucharest

Deliveries of retail spaces will reach the level of 200,000 square meters, new projects and extensions being scheduled in ten medium and large cities in the country, while in Bucharest no scheduled delivery is significant for 2018, according to a report issued by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.

Last year, new spaces with a surface area of about 70,000 square meters were delivered in the country, while in Bucharest the expansion of the AFI Palace Cotroceni project, which increased the rentable surface of the project by about 8,000 square meters, to 90,000 sqm.

Thus, the stock of modern retail space outside Bucharest reached 2.42 million square meters, while the surface of the malls, retail parks and commercial galleries in Bucharest is 1.2 million square meters, taking into account the closure of the hypermarket Carrefour and the commercial gallery within the Vitantis Shopping Center project earlier this year.

Bogdan Marcu, Partner, Retail Agency, explained: "The local retail market is in a stage of maturing and optimization, in which both developers and retailers are carefully analyzing cities and areas with sales potential. As a result, in the next period we will see, in particular, expansions of successful projects, which will strengthen their position, and projects of convenience in uncovered secondary and tertiary cities or with an undersized offer of retail space."
