Romania initiates first meeting of EU Council Presidencies' Trio with Finland and Croatia

Minister-Delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu has initiated on Monday in Brussels, the first, minister-level meeting of the Trio of Presidencies that Romania is due to commence on January 1, 2019, which also includes Finland and Croatia, in the presence of the representatives of Secretariat-General of the European Council and respectively of the European Commission.

Accelerating the rhythm of cooperation was convened upon during the meeting, given the major political evolutions at the level of the European Union throughout the trio′s mandate.

"Through the effort of all institutional partners involved, Romania is today fully implicated in preparing the presidency of the European Union Council," said Victor Negrescu, according to a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) press release, as reported by Agerpres.
"Romania's priority is to prove its professionalism in fulfilling this mandate but also to take advantage of this moment to improve its image and consolidate its position at European level. Romania is perfectly capable to organise the European summit proposed by President Juncker in March 2019, in Sibiu, should it be decided at the Council′s level."

The agenda of the General Affairs Council meeting, attended by minister Negrescu on Monday, aimed to introduce the priorities of the Estonian presidency to the European Union Council, the preparation of the European Council of 19-20 October as well as the legislative programming of the European Commission by the end of 2018.
