Nuclearelectrica to restart negotiations for nuclear reactors 3 and 4 from Cernavoda in September

Negotiations for the construction of nuclear reactors 3 and 4 from Cernavoda will be restarted in September, according to Nuclearelectrica's Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders from August 24, said Daniela Lulache, former general manager of the company.

Also, a decision must be taken this year on the refurbishment of unit 1 from Cernavoda, with a security analysis to be ready by the end of 2017, she mentioned in a press conference where she presented her achievements after a four year and four months mandate.

"The level of nuclear safety was one of the indicators that were evaluated in my work," said Lulache. "Nuclearelectrica is bound to make profit, but nuclear safety must not be compromised. No nuclear power plant so far has managed to recover after some security problems. We cannot talk about performance without maintenance and investments programs. Each year, Nuclearelectrica is investing 250 million RON. There are two categories of investments: mandatory investments for nuclear safety and investments that bring economic benefits. In 2012, before I came to Nuclearelectrica, the profit was around 20 million RON. In 2013, after I got here, the profit was over 400 million RON. All the results that we are proud of were possible due to corporate governance."

According to the quoted source, the beginning of 2017 shows promising results in terms of operational profit, with Nuclearelectrica registering a net profit 25.7 per cent higher than the net profit of the similar period of 2016.

Also, by the end of 2017, substantial concrete data will be obtained from the technical analysis regarding the refurbishment of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 which will lead to a clear objective and decision regarding this project estimated at 1.2-1.5 billion euro. A clear decision from the authorities on the aspects regarding Cernavoda NPP Units 3 and 4 which are in the approval competence of the Romanian state are expected by the end of the year as well.
