Retail market in 2017 to be dominated by strip malls and new retail concepts, says Colliers

Romanian retail market will continue to grow this year, with 180,000 sqm to be delivered, according to data from Colliers International. The biggest retail amount is represented by strip mall projects delivered in secondary and tertiary cities, such as Prima Shops Oradea.

"In the next five years, we expect the number of strip malls delivered annually to exceed the number of regular malls," said Daniela Popescu, associate director of retail department of Colliers International. "For example, this year, there will be delivered at least six strip malls in cities like Bistrita Nasaud Dorohoi, Mioveni, Oradea, Pascani and Targoviste. The first project of this kind will open its doors on April 6, the Prima Shops Oradea, developed by Oasis Retail & Development Consulting."

Colliers estimates the retail stock to be delivered this year (180,000 sqm) will be easily absorbed, given the increase in private consumption last year. The company also claims that more and more retailers in the region are interested in developing on the Romanian market.
