Minister Jianu: We need to make sure money invested in cybersecurity reaches the right place

Minister of Communications and Information Society Augustin Jianu said during a specialist debate, that when talking about cybersecurity, it is truly important to know where to invest and to make sure that the money invested gets where it should be, according to Agerpres.

"When we talk about cybersecurity, we must basically see where we are as a country, in the digital era," said Jianu. "Unfortunately, we continue to rank last when it comes to digital education but also to the infrastructure area. If we consider the European reports, we notice that Romania′s digital economy ranks last. We must invest in digital infrastructure and education. Our agenda provides for attracting European funds for digital services, investment in education, the digital development of the rural area. What is important is to know where to invest when dealing with cybersecurity and to make sure that the money invested goes where it should."

A report of the European Commission (EC), released at the beginning of last year, places Romania last among the EU Member States with respect to the digital economy. According to the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), released in February 2016, on the EC website, a larger percentage of the population is enrolled in broadband networks compared to the previous year, also due to their high quality, however, the low level of digital competencies and users′ trust seems to be an obstacle in the path of the country′s digital economic development.
