President Iohannis invites PM Grindeanu to Cotroceni Palace for talks on budget

President Klaus Iohannis will meet on Wednesday with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu to discuss the Government's plans in respect to the state budget, according to Agerpres.

"President Klaus Iohannis had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu, in which he invited the latter to the Cotroceni Palace for a clarifying talk," the head of state's spokesperson Madalina Dobrovolschi announced in a press conference at the Cotroceni Palace. "Romania′s President wants to find out straight from the Prime Minister what are the Government's plans in respect to the budget for 2017. It is a necessary talk because there are very many concerns about the sustainability of these measures and the effects they may have on the economy."

According to her, the meeting will take place on Wednesday afternoon and is aimed at the Government's plans regarding the budget. Madalina Dobrovolschi said that Public Finance Minister Viorel Stefan will also participate in the meeting.

She pointed out that the concerns are based on figures and data. "Everybody is aware of what has been happening lately. On a Presidential Administration level, there are serious analyses, but also as a mere citizen there are these concerns based on figures, on data. These concerns exist up to the Presidential Administration level," the President's spokesperson added.

Asked if there have also been discussions with Central Bank representatives, Dobrovolschi pointed out that she cannot confirm or invalidate such information.
