Colliers: Romanian retail market is becoming more attractive for new fashion brands

The retail market in Romania has seen a high volume of new supply in 2016 and the entry of new brands, which opened their first stores both in shopping centres already established and projects recently inaugurated, according to real estate consultancy company Colliers International.

2016-11-29 12:30:01

This year, there were delivered over 200,000 sqm of retail spaces, the best year in terms of deliveries after 2009. Nearly half of the volume delivered was in Bucharest, where the stock of shopping centres reached about 1.16 million sqm, of which nearly 40 percent are in sectors 2 and 3, which became the busiest in terms of stock.

"Recent deliveries, such as ParkLake Plaza Mall and Veranda Mall, have brought new brands to the market," said Daniela Popescu, senior associate, Retail Department of Colliers International. "Among mass market brands who have chosen to open their first stores in Romania in these projects, we mention Forever 21 in ParkLake Plaza and French brand Tati in Veranda Mall."

Colliers International estimates that more fashion brands will come to Romania on short term, including Polish brands who are looking to extend their presence

"Furthermore, next year we expect to see retail concepts from Turkey coming on the Romanian market, given the country potential and the attempt to diversify their market presence," explained Popescu.

For 2017, the volume of retail space expected to be delivered is estimated at 180,000 sqm, with projects such as Shopping City Satu Mare (18,000 sqm), Prima Shops Oradea (10,000 sqm), but also extensions of existing projects - Shopping City Sibiu (16,900 sqm extension) and Shopping City Galati (27,000 sqm extension).
