Environment Ministry suspended the order that would have allowed the shooting of nearly 1,700 wild animals

2016-10-21 21:54:42 - From the Print Edition

Romania's Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Cristiana Pasca-Palmer, announced in early October that the procedure for the issuing of the ministerial orders that would have allowed the shooting of 1,691 wild animals was suspended. "You should know that, at the moment, we have suspended the procedure for the issuing of the ministerial orders, because we are still missing some key elements," said the Minister. "First, we need the opinion of the Romanian Academy, the supreme scientific forum of the country, which according to the law has the final say on the study that lies at the basis of the Ministerial Order draft study issued by the Transilvania University, with ICAS and the Carpathians Foundation. All the documentation was sent to the Romanian Academy since September 21, including the opinion of experts within the working group that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests established especially for this topic." Environmental NGO WWF highlighted the fact that the initiative allows the shooting of nearly 1,700 wild animals, including bears, wolves and wild cats, when the project was still in the public debate.
