Minister of Agriculture: Romanian-Iranian trade needs to increase

During the meeting, Irimescu explained that when studying the export figures Romania has with Iran, one can observe a reduced amount. For the first nine months of 2015 they totalled 1.57 million Euro. "Therefore, the Minister has reinforced the idea that it is necessary to develop the trade of agricultural products," read the release. "Given the fact that there is interest from Iran in meat from cattle and sheep from Romania, the Minister suggested to the ambassador to identify a few products that would be of interest to his country and then consult with specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to find concrete solutions to boost trade."
In his turn, Iran′s ambassador gave a brief description of his country, highlighting the strengths - a very wide range of export of agricultural products such as saffron, figs, cherries, apricots and nuts. With a strong industry in petrochemical, textile and construction materials, but also with important deposits of oil and natural gas, Iran′s ambassador showed interest in expanding cooperation with Romania. He said that there is interest in sharing experiences on irrigation, harvesting technologies, cooperation in science, biotechnologies and nanotechnologies as well as in terms of marketing of agricultural products. The Ambassador also pointed out that there are investors interested in developing businesses in agriculture in Romania, given the orientation of agricultural activities offshore Iran.
