Three Bucharest shopping complexes confirm Autumn launch

BUCHAREST The capital′s retail stock in Bucharest will increase by another 425,000 sqm by the end of the year with three new shopping centres confirming they will open this autumn in the central, west and south of the capital.

The 200 million Euro mall Sun Plaza in the south of Bucharest, near Piata Sudului, in Berceni, will open in October 2009, according to developers EMCT and Sparkassen Immobilien. Sun Plaza covers 210,000 sqm and includes an office building which will be delivered in 2010. French hypermarket Cora, DIY retailer bauMax, furniture retailer Mobexpert and Cinema City are the anchor tenants. Its direct competitors are Bucuresti Mall on Calea Vitan and City Mall at Piata Eroii Revolutiei.
Meanwhile mall AFI Cotroceni Park, developed by Israeli group AFI at the junction between Blvd Timisoara and Blvd Vasile Milea will also open next autumn. Brands Real, Zara, C&A, Mango, Marks & Spencer and Bestseller are among the tenants. The mall will also include an IMAX cinema with 20 screens, a go-karting track and a 800 sqm ice rink and climbing wall. Four office buildings and a five star hotel will also be developed in the same project.
AFI Cotroceni Park has direct competition from Plaza Romania, on the same street, and Liberty Center, three km south on Strada Progresului.
Cocor Luxury Store will open on Bucharest′s central Blvd Bratianu in October including brands such as Cellini, Dior, Armani, Gucci and Chanel. Its main competitor is Unirea Shopping Center at Piata Unirii, which is planning an 80,000 sqm extension for 2010.
