Holzindustrie Schweighofer opens a new lumber factory in Romania
Holzindustrie Schweighofer announced this week the launch of operations in the new lumber factory from Reci, Covasna county, with an investment of 150 million Euro. 2015-10-29 10:55:37
The unit , whose construction began in December 2013, has an area of 70 ha and annual capacity of 800,000 cubic meters of round wood, coming from Romanian forests and from Poland, Hungary, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, the Austrian processor says in a press release.
The factory has now over 300 employees and the staff will grow to 650 when the unit works at full capacity.
Holzindustrie Schweighofer also owns lumber factories at Sebes and Radauti, as well as a panel factory at Siret and Comanesti.
Investments made by the company in the Romanian market amount to 778 million euros according to the source. The company was accused for several times of using wood coming from illegal felling but the company says the contrary.
Last week, a report of the non governmental organization US Environmental Investigation Agency shows that Holzindustrie Schweighofer encouraged illegal felling in Romania. In July, the Environment Ministry announced the Prosecution when they found irregularities during a control with Holzindustrie Schweighofer and other economic operators who supplied wood from illegal felling.
