George Enescu festival at start
The 22nd edition of Enescu Festival opened last night with No 1 Romanian Rhapsody by George Enescu, performed by the Romanian Youth Orchestra, conducted by Kristjan Jarvi. Violinist Sarah Chang is joining the orchestra to perform The Violin Concert by Jean Sibelius, whose 150th anniversary of his birth is celebrated this year.

The event, organised by the Arts House Cultural Centre and the Bucharest District 3 City Hall, started August 30 with the performance of Enescu's Rhapsody No. 1 in A major; Jan Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, by the Romanian Youth Orchestra under the baton of director Kristjan Jarvi.
About 2,500 foreign artists and 500 Romanian musicians will attend the 2015 edition of Enescu Festival, the internationally renowned festival, the biggest one organized by Romania. This year's edition will run August 30-September 20 and will host 58 hall concerts and many other open-air events.
