Teamnet develops industrial robots solutions for Megarob project

The project, launched in 2012, is the result of European research project, "MEGAROB", of over 4 million Euro budget and led by AITIIP.

2015-08-06 17:07:20

The AITIIP Technology Centre sited in Zaragoza will become the scene of a factory of the future with the installation of a manufacturing system based on cutting edge industrial robotics, ultra precise and unique in the world due to its characteristics. The robot will be assembled on a crane through which it will move, covering a large workspace (20x6x5 meters). The operations will be controlled by a computer program, which will use a ranking algorithm programmed into the project environment, and will process the readings of a Leica Absolute Laser Tracker AT901 device at a rate of 1000 scans per second in Real-Time.

Manufacturing operations that can make this system are varied, such as drilling, milling, edging, polishing or sanding among others. These operations are performed on large parts, more than 10 meters, other specific characteristics of this platform. Once built the platform and tuned the system, it will be proceed to the system validation in real industrial parts: a composite material beam and a wind turbine blade.

All this development is the result of the European project MEGAROB, led by AITIIP Technology Centre, where take part other Spanish entities such as GrĂșas GH and Acciona and also European partners as Leica Geosystems (Switzerland) and CSEM (Switzerland), Teamnet (Romania) and Espace2001 (Luxembourg). In this project it has been invested more than 4 million Euro and three years of work.

According to Teamnet, "with Megarob, we are trying to build an industrial robot able to perform highly accurate operations on medium and large industrial platforms. As software developer, we are in charge of defining, developing and integrating on full scale all the software interfaces of the prototype, in order to build high level control design software, which includes as elements the following: the visualization interface, the robot's programming interface, CAM solution, centering-simulation and virtual simulation functions."

The main objective of the MEGAROB project is to develop a flexible autonomous platform, based on robotics and mechatronics, to perform high accuracy manufacturing tasks on large components (>10 meters long) which can be found in different industrial sectors such as aeronautic, wind mills, civil engineering, railway and ships manufacturers, achieving a long-range and high-accuracy robotic system adaptable to all types, sizes, quantity and complexity of parts, extensive to any other kind of sector or industry, as logistic, automotive or big machinery manufacturing. The final aim for MEGAROB is to develop an innovative multifunctional manufacturing robot capable of achieving accuracy in positioning through a position acquisition system located in the middle of the part) and to demonstrate its efficiency.
