Pauna, World Bank: Almost 30 billion Euro should be invested in the Romanian energy sector

Energy is an important sector in Romania, which necessitate big investment and in the following 15 years we estimate they approximately 30 billion Euro should be invested, the biggest part of the investment coming from the private sector, stated on Friday Catalin Pauna, economist with the World Bank in Romania.

"Energy is an extremely important sector in Romania with a big contribution to the formation of the GDP. It is a sector which needs important investment. Our estimate are that in the following 15 years, probably 30 billion euro should be invested in the energy sector, the majority coming from the private sector. That is why it is important that the regulation framework of the sector be appropriate, allow the drawing of direct investment," Pauna said.

He appreciated that the OPCOM platform is performant at European level and one of the most transparent."We saw the consolidation of the energy stock exchange OPCOM in Bucharest; it is a performant stock exchange at European level, it is one of the most transparent. We saw volumes of electricity to be traded on this stock exchange. The en gross prices dropped significantly over the last 2-3 years," the representative of the World Bank Romania said.
