Clifford Chance appoints 25 new partners at a global level, includes Romanian lawyer

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance announced today the promotion of 25 new lawyers to its global partnership, including Bucharest-based lawyer Madalina Rachieru.

2015-04-28 13:07:09

With over 13 years of experience and a solid portfolio in the field, Madalina coordinates the Capital Markets practice of the Clifford Chance Badea office. Following this promotion, Madalina joins the two partners in Bucharest - Daniel Badea, Managing Partner, and Nadia Badea. Moreover, two of the seven counsels in the Clifford Chance Badea team, specialized in Corporate M&A, and Banking & Finance/ Project Finance, respectively, are currently involved in the global partnership promotion process.

The new Clifford Chance partners demonstrate the firm continued commitment to invest in building and maintaining market-leading practices that address the most critical and complex challenges faced by its clients, and which reflect fast-evolving market demands.

"This is a very important moment for our office. One of the lawyers that have joined us since the beginning, in 2002, a lawyer I have recruited myself after graduation, has reached the highest performance level of her career. The global partner status in a high-profile law firm like Clifford Chance is a great honor and professional recognition but also a great responsibility. I have no doubt that Madalina will raise to everybody′s expectations, considering her evolution and performance over all these years of working together," said Daniel Badea.

Matthew Layton, Clifford Chance Managing Partner commented, "Many of our new partners are already well-recognized as key individuals in their fields. They have impressive track records on high-profile and ground-breaking mandates and play leading roles in helping those clients grappling with the implications of the increasingly complex global business and financial environment. Their commercial and legal expertise, their commitment and their enthusiasm are fundamental to the firm as we pursue our vision of being the global law firm of choice for the world′s leading businesses."
Madalina Rachieru added: "I am currently facing my greatest professional challenge. The global partner status in one of the most important law firms in the world comes with enormous responsibility to our clients, my colleagues and the global partnership that has credited me with trust and recognition."

Madalina graduated the Bucharest Faculty of Law in 2002; she has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 2003. She specializes in Capital Markets local and international transactions, as well in Banking and Finance. Over the years, she has advised financial institutions, investment banks, local and global companies. Her expertise includes all aspects related to initial public offerings (IPOs), secondary public offerings (SPOs), domestic bond issues, corporate and sovereign Eurobonds issues, EMTN programmes, GDRs issues, and receivables securitisations, being involved in almost all major Capital Markets transactions of the last ten years in Romania.

She joined Clifford Chance Badea since the foundation of the firm in 2002. In 2007, she was seconded for six months to Clifford Chance′s London Capital Markets group. She was promoted to Counsel in 2008. According to the 2014 edition of Chambers Global, clients see Madalina as one of the best lawyers in the country, being acknowledged for her expertise in Capital Markets. She is also recognized for her abilities "when discussing regulatory or documentation issues." The 2015 edition of the same legal directory mentions that Madalina "remains active on numerous banking and finance instructions in Romania, frequently with cross-border elements".

The most representative projects Madalina Rachieru has worked on in recent years include advice to: Fondul Proprietatea, in relation to its secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange (2014 - 2015); A bank consortium, in relation to the dual listing of shares and GDRs by Romgaz S.A., the largest natural-gas producer in Romania, on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges (2012 - 2013); UniCredit Tiriac Bank, on the domestic 550 million RON (approximately €122 million) bond issue successfully closed and listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange - the largest ever launched in Romania (2013).; Ciech SA, shareholder of Uzinele Sodice Govora and the largest chemical producer in Central and Eastern Europe, in relation to its successful bonds issue on the American market (2012); Erste Group, as arranger on the 3 billion Euro MTN Programme launched by Banca Comerciala Romana, the first MTN programme launched by a Romanian entity (2009).
The promotions will take effect from 1 May 2015 and will bring the total number of partners in the firm to 581.
