Cargus merges with Urgent Curier and becomes the second largest courier in local market

Cargus International and Urgent Curier, owned by investment fund Abris Capital Partners announced they merged and the combined company will become the second largest courier player in local market, with cumulated business of 231.6 million lei, after Fan Courier.

The merger has been operated by a taking over of Urgent Curier by Cargus International and it has been approved by the Cargus shareholders in October this year. In June, Abris Capital Partners took over Urgent Curier, with registered business of almost 116 million lei in 2013.
Following the merger, the fund will manage a company with a fleet of 1800 vehicles, 1800 couriers and a logistics network of 142 deposits. The manager of the new company is Gian Sharp, the current general manager of Cargus. Also, the managing board will include Abris Capital partners representatives and Balasescu family, the owners of Urgent Curier.

Abris Capital Partners has offices in Warshaw, Kiev and Bucharest and manages two funds with assets exceeding 770 million Euro.

The Romanian courier market is represented by Fan Courier, with business of 280.5 million lei, DHL Romania with 220.42 million lei, TNT Romania with 164.41 million lei and UPS Romania with 119.87 million lei. Except Posta Romana, the national postal services provider owned by state, the market reached around 250 million Euro overall value in 2013, with 50 million more compared to 2012, according to estimates of Gian Sharp.
