Romanian violonist Stefan Tarara, among the winners of violin section of Enescu Competition

The 14th edition of the George Enescu International Competition, the only classical music competition organized by Romania to attain recognition within the international musical world, will take place between 6th and 27th of September, 2014, at the The Romanian Athenaeum and The National Music University.

The Competition has four sections: Violin, Cello, Piano and Composition for which 81 candidates have submitted. "Romania matters on the international classical music market! This is proven yet again by the Enescu Competition as well, an event that offers young artists the opportunity to launch musical careers of international prestige. With a tradition of getting underway artists who are great names in the classical music world today, the Enescu Competition-along with the Enescu Festival-reinforces Romanian prominence in the international cultural arena. Furthermore, the high number of applicants validates Enescu Competition worth as a distinct, stand-alone event, this being the first time when the Competition is organized apart from the Enescu Festival", states Mihai Constantinescu, Executive Director of the Enescu Competition and Festival.

In a series of exclusive interviews, seven prominent artists in the international classical music discuss for the first time the momentous impact that Enescu Competion has had on their international career and reveal why Romania matters.

Significant names in the international classical music today, laureates of the Enescu Competition themselves-violonists Alexandru Tomescu, Remus Azoitei, Vlad Stanculeasa and Florin Croitoru, pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja, composer Dan Dediu, and celloist Marin Cazacu-show to the world, for a whole week, that "Romania matters".
