Renault to invest 100 million Euro by the end of this year

Present on the market since 1999, by taking-over the Dacia carmaker plant in Mioveni, French-based Renault has invested 2.2 billion Euro in the last 15 years.

2014-08-12 15:40:40

Moreover, the company is planning to inject another 100 million Euro on the local market by the end of 2014, mainly in the modernisation of its plant, according to Nicolas Maure, the president and general manager of Dacia and general manager of Renault Romania. "We are not foreseeing any major new site investment, but we are thinking more about the renewal of the car projects and modernization of the plant, because there is still a lot to do," Maure tells The Diplomat- Bucharest. "What we are now interested in is to develop Tier one and Tier two and even Tier three suppliers, because we are still lacking in local supply for some components."

Last year, Dacia produced 342,620 cars, about a 12 per cent increase compared to 2012, and the most produced models were Duster (119,228 units) and Logan (84,050). However, this year the production is expected to slightly decrease due to the fact that a small percentage of Sandero production in Mioveni was transferred to Morocco. Moreover, the company plans to send the Symbol model to Algeria also in Q4, says Maure. He also adds that in the first half of 2014 the company increased Duster outputs by 40 per cent, thus balancing the overall production. "We have more Duster cars and less Sandero vehicles, so the total value is almost the same. Maybe a bit below," says Maure. "In terms of Algeria, we will invite the local press somewhere in November, although we will be making some cars earlier. All the painted bodies will come from Pitesti together with a very high percentage of the components. Gradually, we will increase the local content in Algeria, but the body shop will remain in Pitesti."
