Valeriu Binig joins EY Romania

Valeriu Binig has joined EY Romania as a Partner in the Advisory Services practice, with focus on the energy industry.

2014-07-17 11:13:29

Valeriu has 27 years of professional experience in the energy sector in various roles ranging from technical and academic to M&A and finance raising advisory, as power plant operation engineer, designer, researcher, lecturer, coordinator of Phare programs, European Commission Delegation Task Manager, top utility company manager, administrator and consultant in investment banking/financial advisory services in the sector. Covering such an extensive experience, he undertook an instrumental role in the transformative process that the local energy market experienced during the last two decades.

"It is an important step in my career and I am looking forward to contribute to the way EY delivers outstanding value to its clients in the energy industry. The experience I have gathered so far will contribute to the business advisory services EY provides in the local market", Valeriu Binig said.

Valeriu Binig acted as an advisor while involved as deputy project manager in the privatization of the three energy complexes Turceni, Rovinari and Craiova, project leader in the privatization of the regional power distribution and supply companies Electrica Transilvania Nord, Electrica Transilvania Sud, Electrica Muntenia Nord, manager in the privatization of Distrigaz Sud, leader of the technical team in the first IPO of Transgaz, deputy project manager in attraction of investors for the CHEAP Tarnita-Lapustesti project. He assisted in transactions involving wind power projects and solar PV projects and coordinated the development of strategic market studies in the field of electricity and natural gas.

Before joining EY, Valeriu Binig held leading positions in other consultancy firms for over 6 years, and also a director position within an investment banking and investment fund management team for another 6 years. He is Co-Chairman of the Energy and Environment Comittee of AmCham Romania and had previously been Chairman of the Board of the Romanian Energy Efficiency Fund (FREE).

"We see an increasing need for integrated advisory services from our clients, mainly due to the increased sophistication of our market. Our clients in the energy sector want the consultant to be able to become their long term partner in implementation of business transformation initiatives, not just the designer of new solutions. In this context, Valeriu will contribute to further integrate our fast growing local practice with our unique international expertise," said Saulius Adomaitis, Partner, Head of CSE Advisory Markets and EY Romania Advisory Leader.

"Our strategy is to continue to further consolidate our market-leading position in the energy and oil and gas. Valeriu involvement in our advisory practice will certainly contribute to achieve this ambition. We believe combining our local expertise with the knowledge available in our global centers of excellence which comprise a network of professionals with extensive multi-disciplinary experience relevant for these industries, will benefit both market players and regulators", said Bogdan Ion, Country Managing Partner, EY Romania.
