Romanians voted for their representatives in the European Parliament

Partial data released by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on the morning after the day of EU parliament elections organized in Romania showed that the electoral alliance of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), National Union for Romania′s Progress (UNPR) and Conservative Party (PC) received 37.40 per cent of the votes in the European Parliament elections, the National Liberal Party (PNL) scored 14.86 per cent, and the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) achieved 12.23 per cent. The Bureau processed the results of 96.18 per cent of the polling stations.
According to BEC data, the voter turnout in recent elections for the European Parliament was 26.52 per cent at 7 p.m. according to data released by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) for the whole country. The overall turnout was 23.69 per cent in urban areas and 30.37 per cent in rural areas. The previous European Parliament elections organized in 2009 scored a voter turnout of 21.63 per cent.
By counties, the highest turnouts were seen in Olt (south) with 37.93 per cent, Ilfov (outskirts of Bucharest) with 34.21 pct, Mehedinti (southwest) with 33.16 pct, Dambovita (northwest of Bucharest) with 31.89 pct; and Dolj (south) with 31.37 pct. Opposing to these scores, the lowest turnouts were registered in Maramures (north) with 20.53 per cent, Ialomita (south) with 22.06 pct, Tulcea (southeast) with 22.34 pct, Timis (west) with 22.75 pct, and Braila (southeast) with 23.21 pct.
