New EUR 1.5 billion underground mainline planned

2014-04-05 16:54:37 - From the Print Edition

The Bragadiru-Voluntari underground mainline 7 is projected to cost EUR 1.5 billion and could take six years to complete, exMinister of Transport Ramona Manescu told a French-Romanian seminar on public-private partnerships in transport infrastructure organized this February.
"The Bragadiru-Voluntari underground mainline 7 is on the list of infrastructure projects under the administration of the Transport Ministry, which suggested it should be carried out under a public-private partnership/public works concession contract. This line could cost EUR 1.5 billion and take six years to build," said Manescu. According to the minister, the above-mentioned list also includes a project for renovating and managing 15 main railway stations in Romania, with an estimated value of EUR 65 million, and one developing road and railway intermodal terminals, the Intermodal Centre for Freight Transport in Suceava (north-eastern Romania), with an estimated value of EUR 26 million.
The 15 stations that will be refurbished could include facilities in Arad, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj, Constanta and Galati, and the value of the project is estimated at EUR 65 million. Manescu said that it could take 36 months to develop road and railway intermodal terminals.
