Transelectrica purchased electric power worth 5 million lei from state companies in December

Power transporter Transelectrica announced it acquired energy worth 5 million lei from state companies. The energy has been used for Transelectrica operations, the company announced.

Translectrica signed three contracts for purchasing energy on the centralized market of bilateral contracts on OPCOM. The first contract has been signed with Hidroelectrica and it is worth over 1.6 million lei while the rest of two has been signed with Romanian Authority for Nuclear Activities and they are worth 1.65 million each. The contracts will be ended on June 30 this year.

Romanian power grid company Transelectrica estimates that energy consumption will decrease by about 4 percent annually between 2014 and 2017, to reach 43.46 TWh, according to the firm′s income and expenditure projections released in early September. The main reason for the falling trend is the financial crisis that has hit Romania, but it is also because some companies now manufacture their own energy and others have replaced old equipment, according to Curierul National. Electricity consumption fell last year by 3.8 percent, from 56.06 TWh in 2011 to 53.93 TWh in 2012. This year, consumption could fall by 5.1 percent to 51.17 TWh.

Transelectrica estimates that next year the value will reach 49.12 TWh, while in 2015 consumption will drop to 47.15 TWh and in 2016 to 45.27 TWh. In 2017, estimated consumption will stand at 43.46 TWh. Transelectrica, the Romanian transmission and system operator (TSO), plays a key role in the local electricity market. The company is responsible for electricity transmission, system and market operation, the grid and market infrastructure development, ensuring the security of the local power system.
