Verbund puts EUR 380 million wind farm into operation
July 2013 - From the Print Edition
Following a development stage of more than four years and a construction phase of about one year, Verbund, Austria's leading electricity company, put into operation in early June one of Europe's largest on-shore wind farms, located near the Romanian Black Sea coast.
Roughly half of the 225 MW wind farm has been connected to the grid, and further wind farms are to follow by the beginning of 2014. The investment volume is about EUR 380 million, and a further expansion stage to 280 MW is planned by 2016. "Wind power is the ideal addition to our generation focus on hydropower, and Romania offers good overall conditions for our investment," said the CEO of the company, Wolfgang Anzengruber. The wind farm is situated about 250 km east of Bucharest, near the Romanian Black Sea coast.
