Judicial appointments finalized

The controversy around the appointments in the justice system has come to an end, as President Traian Basescu appointed Tiberiu Mihail Nitu the Chief Prosecutor at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Dimitrie Bogdan Licu as the first deputy of the Chief Prosecutor and Codrut Olaru as the deputy of the Chief Prosecutor.
Laura Codruta Kovesi was appointed Chief Prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), while Alina Mihaela Bica has been named the Chief Prosecutor of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and Elena Giorgiana Hosu the deputy of the Chief Prosecutor of DIICOT.
Proposals for these offices, accompanied by advisory opinions from the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), were sent by the Minister of Justice Robert Cazanciuc to President Basescu, who had the final say on the appointments.Under law No. 303/2004, the Chief Prosecutor of the DNA and its deputies are appointed for a three-year mandate by the President on the proposal of the Minister of Justice, with the approval of the Superior Council of Magistracy.
