Organic food is not yet trendy in Romania. Although farmers’ markets around the country sell locally-produced meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables, few of these products follow the rules of organic farming. Forced to gain a big return on their small yield of crops, subsistence farmers tend to stuff any kind of chemical into the soil to make their pumpkins or onions grow larger.
