Cigarettes to be more expensive starting with July 1

The price of a pack of cigarettes will increase by 15 to 20 bani from July 1, with the increase of total excise from EUR 76.6 per 1,000 cigarettes to EUR 79.19 per 1.000 cigarettes as is provided in the calendar of alignment of excise duties on tobacco, set up until 2017. The average weighted retail for the year 2011 is EUR 130.07/1.000 cigarettes, respectively RON 11.1863 / package. According to the regulated calculation mechanism the specific duty for the period July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2013 included, expressed in euro/1.000cigarettes, is EUR 53,18 /1.000 cigarettes, while the ad valorem duty is reduced from 21 percent  to 20 percent at an average selling price. Fixed duty thus increase by EUR 1.7/1.000 cigarettes from EUR 51.49 , which equals an impact of 3.4 cents per pack (15 bani).
