Boc gives Interior Minister the boot

Prime Minister Emil Boc has announced that Dan Nica will be dismissed from his post as Minister of the Administration and Interior, because the PM argues he has overseen a rise in criminality of 13 per cent. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) had to come with a new proposal to replace Nica, otherwise Democratic Liberal Vasile Blaga would be appointed in the post. This seat holds significance as the Ministry organises the November presidential elections, therefore the Democratic-Liberals (PD-L) would be happy to poach this post from the PSD. President Basescu has the power to approve the nominations for Ministers. By the time The Diplomat went to press, the PSD had refused to replace Nica, threatening its coalition partners, the PD-L, to break apart the Government. A compromise ‘independent’ Minister was up for debate.
