Mr Radu Enache, the country manager of Hewlett Packard Romania, has been appointed as the first Romanian president of the American Chamber of Commerce Romania (AmCham). The new vice presidents are Friedrich Niemann, general manager of the Athenee Palace Hilton Hotel and Vasile Iuga, senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Romania, with Peter Weiss, country executive of ABN Amro Romania, as treasurer.

Mr Daniel Chitoiu is now president of Romania’s Tax Collection Agency (ANAF) and has the role of a state secretary. Prior to this position, Mr Chitoiu was vice president of ANAF. With a PhD in economy, Mr Chitoiu is a graduate in finance and accounting from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest. His career includes work as financial controller for Romania’s Accounts Court and deputy general manager in the Public Finance and Financial State Control Department of the Ministry of Finance. Fluent in French and English, Mr Chitoiu is married with one child.

New Minister of Agriculture, Decebal Traian Remes, has appointed Mr Dan Ioan Aldea as general manager of state forestry commission Romsilva, which owns and administers the forest land in Romania. Mr Aldea has been the interim general manager under the last Minister of Agriculture, Dan Motreanu.

New Minister of Transport, Ludovic Orban, has appointed Mr Sorin Supuran as the new head of the Romanian Roads Authority (ARR), replacing Mr Marian Turlea. A member of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Mr Supuran is a former mayor of Biled, Timis county and, prior to this appointment, he managed the ARR branch in Timis.

President Traian Basescu has appointed Democratic Party (PD) deputy Mr Augustin Zegrean as a Constitutional Court judge for the next nine years. His mandate will begin on 13 July. The 53 year-old deputy is also a member of the Parliamentary Justice Commission. A member of the PD since 1990, Mr Zegrean graduated in Law from the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca in 1980.

Mr Iuliu Winkler is now state secretary within the newly established Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions. Mr Winkler previously was Romania’s Minister Delegate for Trade within the Ministry of Economy and Trade.

Mr Ilie Gavril Bolojan, 38, is the new Secretary General of Romania’s Government. Mr Bolojan is the former Prefect of the Bihor county and has a degree in mechanics from the ‘Traian Vuia’ Polytechnic Institute in Timisoara.

Former Minister of Transport, Radu Berceanu, 54, and Liberal senator Norica Nicolai, 49, have been appointed vice-presidents of the Senate by the Democratic Party (PD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL) respectively. The seats were left vacant after PNL senator Teodor Melescanu was appointed Defence Minister and PD senator Alexandru Peres quit his job.

Mr Mihai Grecu is the new general manager of the National Company for Highways and National Roads (CNADNR), replacing Mrs Dorina Tiron. 26 year-old Grecu, one of the Prime Minister’s counsellors, worked for a short time - the spring of 2006 - for the secretary of state Septimiu Buzasu in the Ministry of Transport.

Reshuffled Minister of Finance, Sebastian Vladescu, has taken a job as secretary of state on treasury issues at the new Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Mr Alexandru Gheorghe Dumitrescu has been appointed as General Consul, head of Romania’s General Consulate in Milan, Italy. Previously a consul within Romania’s general Consulate in Milan, Mr Dumitrescu is a graduate from the Bucharest Institute of Constructions and has also undertaken courses in Trade Management and International Relations. He speaks Italian and English.

Following the merger of KLM and Air France, the new manager responsible for business in Romania and the Republic of Moldova is Mr Alexandru Dobrescu, the former KLM country manager in the same role. Formerly head of the Air France office in Romania, Mr Rodolphe Lenoir, has been appointed as Air France KLM commercial manager for central Europe.

Mrs Rushda Thavaravej has been appointed Ambassador of Thailand to Romania, replacing Mr Warawit Kanithasen.







The appointment of Edward Iosiper as the new Romania’s Ambassador to Israel was soon to be made official by Interim President Nicolae Vacaroiu, as we went to press. After rough hearings, the Parliament approved Iosiper’s nomination for this post. The 40 year-old economist has five years in diplomacy, all spent in the USA. At the Embassy in Washington he worked as deputy director, where he dealt with Jewish issues, the Middle East and the Relationship of the Embassy with the US Congress.
